I bet when the first Phoenician merchants came to settle in Algarve , they were mostly attracted to the stunning beauty of Algarve beaches. Infinite blue sea, sandy coast, miles of dunes, beautiful rocky cliff, sunny weather all-year long, combined with Torta de Laranja, a glass of vinho verde , and a feeling of a day-gone-peacefully-by. Algarve has been claimed as the place where you can find the best beaches in Europe. With the relaxing atmosphere of the country, unspoilt nature, romantic history, delicious cuisine and friendly locals who know how to enjoy life, a perfect holiday for you is guaranteed.
Of course, sunbathing is not the only thing you can do in Algarve. For those who love sports, there are plenty of choices for (a bit more) active holidays. Surfing, diving, snorkelling, kayaking, sailing or (deep-sea) fishing, are just a few to mention. Dolphin watching and sea excursion is a must for unforgettable experience. Inland activities are plenty as well. Golf, tennis and horse-riding are popular there. Exploring the region such as Faro, Tavira, Sagres, Monchique (winery, mountain), can be easily done with a rental car. Air sport (at Aerodrome de Lagos), rollerblade-hockey (organized by RollerLagos), blokarting (in a 3-wheeled "car" with a sail and a pilot seat), or safaris in a Jeep or Land Rovers are maybe the stuff that you want try.
Ask all travellers who have been captured-in-the-heart by Algarve , can they get enough of the beaches there? No, we cannot. It is not only because the beaches stretch for 160 kilometers away. Not only because of its golden sand shone by the warm sunshine. Not only because of the unspoilt and undeveloped beaches that you can still find in the West Coast. Or the secluded areas where you can do skinny dipping or nude sunbathing. Algarve is simply beautiful. Sun, sand, and sea - you can never get enough of them. |
